Several Leadership Lowndes members spent the morning
framing a home at 612 Monroe Street. Also participating
were volunteers from Moody AFB, VSU and Lowndes High
School.

Some 23 students from Roger Williams University in
Rhode Island spent the past week constructing a home at
609 Cypress Street. The students arrived in Valdosta
Sunday for a Valdosta-Lowndes County Habitat for
Humanity Collegiate Challenge.

THUMBS UP: To area churches, volunteers and, of
course, Habitat for Humanity, for helping two families
realize their dream of home ownership. India Bell and
Ana Lopez both closed on their new homes in time to
celebrate the holiday season. The mothers said they are
grateful for the opportunity to move their children into
safe, clean homes and good neighborhoods.

VALDOSTA —
Both India Bell and Ana Lopez will celebrate
Christmas in their new homes on Friday. The houses,
located at 203 and 205 Perkins Lane, were started during
a Building on Faith Week, an annual celebration of God’s
love during which the local Habitat for Humanity and its
church partners host building events.
Home Builder Association Holds Reverse Raffle

fourth annual reverse raffle and auction Saturday at the
Elks Lodge, 2309 Highway 84.Proceeds

System may eventually have a community service project
that incorporates the entire system. At Monday's work
session at Moulton Branch Elementary School, Jason
Wisenbaker, District 4, related a story he has heard at
a recent Rotary meeting.
Fair to focus on affordable housing

Opening doors for potential homeowners is the
purpose of a weekend housing fair. The Housing Resource
Fair is being hosted from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday
by Housing Resource Solutions and the Lowndes County
branch of the University of Georgia Cooperative
Extension Office. The fair will be held at the Lowndes
County Civic Center, 2102 E. Hill Ave.
Habitat hosts Women Build Week

Valdosta, GA May 2, 2009 – In the days leading up to
Mother’s Day, 175 construction crews of women volunteers
across the country will be pounding nails and raising
walls at Habitat construction sites across the country
in recognition of National Women Build Week, May 2 - 10.
Today, in Valdosta, local women volunteers will be
manning tools and building materials, working on a
family’s new home.
A big birthday gift

VALDOSTA — Volunteers and staff with the
Valdosta-Lowndes County Habitat for Humanity broke
ground on a home for a longtime friend of the Valdosta
community Friday. The house, located at 405 S. Lee St.,
is expected to be complete in mid-May, which will serve
as a birthday present for the home’s new owners, Hoyt
and Elizabeth Redding.
Founder of Habitat for Humanity dies

Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity and
The Fuller Center for Housing is dead at age 74. Fuller
died about 3 a.m. Tuesday after being taken to the
emergency room at Sumter Regional Hospital East.
Dog kennels donated

VALDOSTA — In the spirit of Sammie, a stray dog who
often wanders along Norman Drive, the Valdosta-Lowndes
County Habitat for Humanity recently donated portable
dog kennels to the Humane Society of Valdosta/Lowndes
County and Lowndes County Animal Shelter.

VALDOSTA — Two families received an early Christmas
present Monday. Valdosta-Lowndes County Habitat for
Humanity officials turned over the keys to homes located
on Troup Street and Webster Street to their respective
families.
