I moved to Hahira in December of 2020 from Northern Connecticut after a 40-year career in Broadcasting. My brother has been a Valdosta resident for many years, and I thought it would be nice to be near him in my “retirement” years. I immediately fell in love with the area and bought a home. Quite honestly, I should have moved here 40 years ago!
I quickly realized that I was not ready for retirement and answered a job posting for Construction Manager. When I started with Valdosta – Lowndes County Habitat in early September 2021, I walked into an affiliate of close knit, caring, hard working professionals that immediately made me one of their own. A month later, I was honored, and at the same time, stunned and petrified to be named Executive Director. I now lead the group of professionals that took me in with open arms to provide decent affordable housing in Lowndes County. I am truly a lucky man.
The aphorism, “When one door closes, another opens” could not be truer for me. Because of circumstances beyond my control, I moved to a community 1100 miles from where I lived for my entire life. This community has welcomed and made to feel like I have always belonged.
I look forward to going to work every day and return home most days knowing that I was a part of something good in our community. Valdosta – Lowndes County Habitat for Humanity is a great organization whose primary mission is the elimination of sub-standard housing in Lowndes County. I am blessed to be a part of that effort.
